Deze koekoekshommel kan verward worden met de verwante Bombus vestalis. De soort is algemeen in geheel Nederland. Zeeland lijkt duidelijk onderbemonsterd. De veldhommel Bombus lucorum is de gastheer. De tweekleurige koekoekshommel vliegt van maart tot in september, mannetjes vanaf half mei.
