- Evergreen ground herb; culms c. 50 together, loosely spaced, culm groups c. 2 m wide, culms 12-14 m tall, basal diameter 4-6 cm; epidermis thin, smooth, green; inflorescences on leafless culms, axes green; spikelets dull green, turning brown; leaf blades dull dark green above, pale light green underneath; culm sheaths from very immature culms.
